Serpentine Ridge is a place of healing
to slow down…..to the pace of nature
listening deeply…… (Dadirri)
finding your connection…. to self & to the land
With breath taking mountain views, Serpentine Ridge is located only half an hour west of Gympie bordering the Wide Bay, Cooloola Rainbow Beach & Noosa & Sunshine Coast Regions.
50 acres on private land, the ridge joins onto a series of ridges leading to Widgee Mountain itself. Widgee mountain range is formed from Serpentine rock pushing its way up from the bottom of the ocean when land was still in it’s tumultuous stages millions of years ago.
The rock creates a place where Grass Trees, xanthorea, can proliferate. The grass trees only grow around one centimeter over a span of approximately 10yrs, Serpentine Ridge is the home of these ancient beings that have created a very unique habitat for permanent & transient wildlife.
When the Grass Trees Flower
When the thousands of grass trees push up their flower stalks, it’s a powerful experience wandering the hills as mirriads of Lorikeets fly overhead, excitedly to sip the sweet nectar of the thousands of tiny flowers that cover each of the flower stalks. They fly large distances from their roosting places to sip the sweet nectar & fly back to their resting places when they have enjoyed their fill. In grass tree floweing times, it’s THE PLACE, where all kinds of butterflies, nectar-eating insects, birds, and animals flock to feast!
After the flowering times, the seeds on the stalks mature, still providing feasts for different birds, insects & creatures. Abundant seeds with the promise to grow new grass tree plants, continuing the growing of the Grass Tree population.
Such a feast for our eyes, uplifting the heart…a place where you can enjoy bushwalking, photography, identification of bird species, plant species & other wildlife, all welcomed & encouraged!!
Where Our Hearts Reside as the current custodians
We are immersing ourselves into growing conscious authentic relationships, as a couple, & with those we encounter. We embrace & encourage a deep connection to earth culture, immersing ourselves in First Nations’ ideals of caring for the land, her trees, and her creatures.
Our main aim is growing trees for restoration of the land, that has been degraded since colonialization. We plant original species native to the area, as well as other bush medicine, floristry and bush tucker trees, to create pathways for wildlife to follow & make their home.
We aim to continue our work though our Bush Mountain Trust to run programs to encourage others, looking in to emulate something of the same nature in their patch.
With the ethos of giving back to the land that nurtures us.
